KIRTHI NATH is a documentary filmmaker whose newest project PARAMITA is part poetry, part memoir-style reflection and part feminist Buddhist prayer. It chronicles the 25-year coming out process between first generation Bengali American Prajna Paramita Choudhury and her mother. Told with intimacy, tenderness and a meditative pace, PARAMITA explores queer love, ancestral wisdom, intergenerational bridge-making, and nature as a pathway for healing. The projects of colonialism, white supremacy, capitalism and cultural appropriation strive to disconnect us from our ancestral wisdom. PARAMITA addresses the harm and white-centering appropriation of Buddhism and the erasure of QTPOC spiritual stories. Prajna’ s process embodies key Buddhist practices showing her how to stay in relation to her mom( and family) while remaining true to herself. Just like Prajna is transformed, there is potential for the viewer to be transformed.
