AKIING / ANISHINAABE AGRICULTURE / AKIING YOUNG WOMENS ( HONOR THE EARTH ), Akiing / Anishinaabe Agriculture
Institute is a non-profit organization that works to restore food ways , rematriate seeds , and make a new economy , one based on local food , energy , and fiber . Funds went to support general operations and support their Young Women ’ s Leadership Development Project as they planned to work more closely in their community with young women ’ s leadership development focusing on young women from the White Earth reservation . This work will involve nurturing a core group of youth through educational programs including culture and language teachings , community organizing , murals and arts , horsemanship , farming and academics . The program works with twenty young women in the Pine Point and Red Lake community over the course of the summer .
SABITA MAHATO & SHRUTI RAWAT , ONE BILLION RISING South Asia activists and cyclists . Sabita and Shruti are riding and rising against patriarchy , gender-based violence and against the violent assault by us human beings on the Earth . Their cycling journey took place on the Trans Himalaya expedition with a spirit to bring change and RISING . They covered 5,700 kilometers ( 3,541 miles ) of the Himalayas in India and Nepal on their cycles . After experiencing discrimination and facing limiting gendered stereotypes at a young age , Sabita decided to show her father that “ a woman can do all things .” Mahato and Rawat aim to ride across the Trans Himalaya expedition in 90 days . The goal of their expedition is to bring awareness on gender based violence and the damaging effects of patriarchy in addition to encouraging us to get back to cycling for a sustainable future . Cycling showcases the need for immediate climate action , to contribute towards reducing the carbon footprint and to make our societies inclusive , safe , resilient , and sustainable . On their way , Mahato and Rawat , will engage with local people , especially young people , on issues related to violence against women and violence against Mother Earth .
