Friendly Reminders
with Angela Hunt
Welcome back to Faire! Winter is over.
A friend once made the joke “How do you know
someone is a Rennie?” We waited, knowing they had
some rhetorical punchline in the wings. “When a sign
says No Admittance, a Rennie sees it, nods and walks
right past it because obviously, it was meant for
someone else.” We all groaned. We were at
Scarborough and the beautiful Falls had been decreed
off limits for the season due to issues. A moment later,
several people walked up talking about their morning
chilling at the Falls. Then several more. And more. It
was like a scene from a comedy sketch gone wrong.

Social Media, great! We can be connected in
seconds. Impulsive posts can become instant regret.
Vent to a friend you can trust not to use it to make a
drama. Social Media? Use it for positives and
communication- share cool sights and places. Science
shows a strong correlation in emotions within people-
negative leads to negative. Positive draws positive.
Consider when you post: is it constructive, is it
something you’ll want to remember when it comes
back on your feed?
Consider your neighbors, they’ll be your
neighbors for the run of the show possibly. If you live
in a tent, it’s likely your neighbors are politely trying
not to listen to your conversations although that gets
difficult in the middle of the night when sound carries
further. Think of your tent like a microphone. Quiet or
private conversations happen in structures with solid
walls, or by taking a walk away from everyone.
If you have a pet, be mindful of how it may
impact your neighbors who do not have pets.
If you use it, take care of it. There are
dumpsters for garbage. Leaving food or garbage lying
