CHAMPS LEAGUE PREVIEW
This year the Champions League will be decided in Lisbon for the first time since 1967. The two finalists come head to head on the 24th of May to decide this year’s European Champion. Chelsea and Real Madrid both got through to the semi-finals on Tuesday night, narrowly defeating PSG and Dortmund respectively. Chelsea made a stunning comeback on the night as most had already written them off against high spending Paris Saint Germain. After shooting themselves in the foot back in France; losing 3-1, the Blues turned it all around with a confident 2-0 victory. Madrid on the other hand had a tougher time of things, as they had to endure several nervy minutes in their second leg. A comprehensive 3-0 home win meant that the second leg was all but a formality; however after two early Dortmund goals the comeback was there for the taking. The game finished 3-2 and Madrid progressed.
Wednesday night saw Bayern end Man Utd’s hopes of redeeming their poor season with a good champion’s league run. David Moyes's side had held Bayern to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and stunned the hosts when Patrice Evra rifled in early in the second half. But Mario Mandzukic nodded in a swift equaliser before Thomas Muller's finish ten minutes later put Bayern ahead. Arjen Robben then wrapped up the 4-2 aggregate win with a fine solo goal.
In the other game of the night Atletico Madrid knocked Spanish rivals Barcelona out of the Champions League as Koke's early goal gave them a 2-1 aggregate win over the Catalan giants. The young midfielder's close-range shot put the Spanish league leaders into the semi-finals following the 1-1 draw in Barcelona last week. Atletico were all over Barcelona early on as the hosts struck the woodwork three times in the opening 20 minutes.
