Principle 1 | Purpose
We will develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy .
Strategy 2021 + commits the Business School to providing a transformative education that equips our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform and thrive in the contemporary workplace . Today , it is expected that such knowledge and skills include the capacity to behave ethically and to practice socially responsible management , to the benefit of individuals , organisations and society .
This expectation was exemplified through a project run by the UNSW Future Student Recruitment team in 2020 , aimed at strengthening UNSW ’ s program portfolio and identifying key drivers of future student demand . One such driver identified for the Business School was that business leaders are expected to do good for society and that learning experiences should enable future graduates to do that .
Business School Strategy 2021 +
Theme 1 : Transformative Education & Student Engagement
Our students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform and thrive in the contemporary workplace and promote lifelong learning opportunities . We will redesign the learning experience , including the formal curriculum , to develop inclusive learning communities .
Alignment with UN PRME and Fulfilment of the SDGs : We will promote responsible management education , including business ethics , and reflect principles in course and program learning outcomes , as well as in assurance of learning processes .
Business leaders are expected to do good for society
> Business as a force-for-good is becoming a major theme rather than a small component of a course , e . g . ethics .
> Empathetic leaders often do well as they connect better with their colleagues
> Learning activities should embed the vision , mission and value of doing business .
> Students should be encouraged to engage with communities to understand their diverse needs .
> UNSW should continue its emphasis on inclusion .
More and more , the Business School is ensuring that we genuinely embed responsible leadership capability development and new responsible mindsets into our programs and student experience initiatives . Some examples are provided in the following overview .
