1.1 Programs with Purpose : MBAX Social Impact
Principle 1
The aim of the online MBAX Social Impact program , jointly offered by AGSM and the Centre for Social Impact ( CSI – see Section 3.3 ), is for graduates to perform effectively in the field of social impact within either the corporate , social purpose or government sectors .
Social impact courses are delivered by the CSI and are focused on understanding the dynamics of the social economy and how business , social enterprise government , foundations and community organisations can work together for positive social change . Core courses include the following .
> MBAX9131 : Leadership is the commencing course in all MBAX programs . Two units of the course are dedicated to introducing the concepts of ethical leadership , ethical thinking , authentic leadership and servant leadership . Students learn how ERS concepts can be applied and , through experiential learning , improve their ability to engage in more responsible leadership .
> COMM5701 : Social Impact examines the accelerating economic relationship between government , business and the third sector to deliver social ( including environmental ) value in communities , and the way in which this drives social innovation .
> MBAX9135 : Business Analytics , with “ Ethical Aspects of Business Analytics ” as the final unit . The unit includes a big data ethics framework , ethical decision point cycle and social-media ethics and a decision tree ; with key concepts , ethics , unintended consequences , values , privacy , and regulation .
> MBAX9151 : Law , Regulation & Ethics is designed to equip students with the analytical tools to identify and manage the governance , compliance and risk management issues that arise from law , regulation and ethics in the context of businesses ’ relationship with society .
> COMM5714 : Social Impact Capstone requires students to work on a real social impact project with deliverables determined by the project client in collaboration with the course facilitator . The project integrates knowledge and expertise gained throughout the degree , such as social entrepreneurship , social innovation , corporate responsibility and accountability , collaboration , design for social innovation , the demonstration and measurement of social impact , social investment , shared value , and leadership .
MBAX Social Impact Scholarship
CSI offers scholarship to MBAX Social Impact students who can demonstrate ongoing commitment , engagement and leadership in supporting , developing and contributing to better social outcomes in business . These areas can include the public and / or social purpose sectors in the past or as part of a future career path .
Three scholarships are awarded each year – one worth $ 25,000 and two worth $ 12,500 each . They are open to all applicants who receive an offer of admission to the MBAX Social Impact program and are working in a registered social purpose or social enterprise organisation .
MBAX Rankings
In the Financial Times 2021 Global Online Rankings released March 2021 , the MBAX ranked first in Australia and 10th in the world ; the program ranked second in the world for Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ).
Graduates of the MBAX Social Impact program are expected to demonstrate effective leadership and management at a high level in the area of social impact initiatives by combining strong strategic management skills with specialist social impact expertise .
