Challenge
Gendered violence and abuse are expressions of power and control related to gender. They encompass domestic, family and sexual violence, sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, and violence among household members, extended families and kinships. Gendered violence and abuse can include intimidation, coercion, harassment and financial abuse.
Solution
The network combines research excellence and practitioner knowledge to encourage innovation and good practice, promoting informed, evidencebased discussions of policy and practice to reduce and mitigate the harmful effects of gendered violence.
The network undertakes rigorous and reliable multidisciplinary research that focuses on‘ realworld’ societal impact and prioritises engagement with key communities, especially service providers and service users.
It also incorporates the voices of victims and survivors into research, particularly those from marginalised populations.

• government departments- NSW Department of Communities and Justice, Commonwealth Department of Social Services
• non-government organisations – Women and Girls Emergency Centre( WAGEC).
Progress
• funding 2021-2025: research AU $ 5m +, knowledge translation AU $ 1m +
• 30 research partnerships, 55 knowledge-translation partnerships
• contributor to national publications guidelines( e. g., Sexual Violence Standards and Safe at Home Operational Framework).

The Gendered Violence Research Network is dedicated to preventing and responding to gendered violence wherever it occurs – in workplaces, in homes, and at institutions like universities. Team members are research leaders in exploring the impact of gendered violence and translating this research into tailored training and advisory services.
