Business and Management | 101 Marketing and Media BA (Hons) Why study this course? This course combines a distinct blend of marketing and media theory with creative practice. You will have the opportunity to develop cross disciplinary skills which will enable you to understand and engage with a range of consumer audiences in different markets. You will reflect on the ways in which individual and business consumers are affected by, and drive the development of, a range of marketing and communications techniques. Looking at this from local, national and global perspectives, you will explore the role of consumers in society and will learn how to understand and communicate with them. You’ll also examine the impact of marketing on the culture of businesses, governments and other organisations. In the marketing modules you’ll learn how to plan and implement a successful marketing strategy and have the opportunity to explore branding and digital marketing. In the media modules you will learn to become a thoughtful critical media practitioner, with a range of competencies such as digital production, and pre and post production skills. You can also enhance your practical experience by options to take a placement year between years two and three of your studies. What will this mean for my future? The course will equip you with a range of contemporary skills which are in demand in every type of organisation, not just commerce and industry but also the public sector, political parties, charities and educational institutions. You could apply your skills in-house with an organisation or in an agency (such as advertising, web, market research or branding) or in print, online or broadcast media. You may also choose to specialise in a field such as video, TV production or social media.
