Marketing and Psychology
BSc (Hons)
Why study this course?
The Marketing and Psychology course at Keele provides you with an excellent
understanding of why humans feel, think and act the way they do and the
impact marketing and communication can have on behaviours such as
purchasing, brand loyalty and awareness.
You will learn about marketing and business in the context of social
and cultural trends and will be encouraged to apply your learning
to strategic business decision making. Your marketing modules will
introduce you to the basic foundations of knowledge about markets and
consumers, patterns of consumer behaviour and how to understand and
communicate with them. You will learn about the wider context in which
business operates; its social, legal and political dimensions. You can
also deepen your knowledge by exploring branding and digital marketing.
In psychology, you will find out what the latest research tells us about
human behaviour in a biological and cognitive framework. In our well
equipped laboratories, you will learn how to design and conduct your
own psychological studies, using a range of quantitative and qualitative
techniques. The two subjects work well together as psychological
factors play an important role in consumer behaviour and choices as well
as informing general business knowledge of fields such as leadership,
teamwork and culture management. You also have the opportunity to take
a placement year between years two and three of your studies.
What will this mean for my future?
This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, a necessary
first step for many professional careers in psychology including becoming
a Chartered Psychologist. Psychological careers include clinical,
counselling, educational, forensic, occupational or sports psychology.
Your subject specific and transferable skill set will open up a diverse
variety of career options for you to take into business, the public sector
or the not-for-profit sector. You could work in commerce and industry,
the health services, political parties or charities. Whatever path you
choose in your working life, you will develop a psychological perspective
on human behaviour which is valued in a range of careers.
