102 | Business and Management Marketing and Psychology BSc (Hons) Why study this course? The Marketing and Psychology course at Keele provides you with an excellent understanding of why humans feel, think and act the way they do and the impact marketing and communication can have on behaviours such as purchasing, brand loyalty and awareness. You will learn about marketing and business in the context of social and cultural trends and will be encouraged to apply your learning to strategic business decision making. Your marketing modules will introduce you to the basic foundations of knowledge about markets and consumers, patterns of consumer behaviour and how to understand and communicate with them. You will learn about the wider context in which business operates; its social, legal and political dimensions. You can also deepen your knowledge by exploring branding and digital marketing. In psychology, you will find out what the latest research tells us about human behaviour in a biological and cognitive framework. In our well equipped laboratories, you will learn how to design and conduct your own psychological studies, using a range of quantitative and qualitative techniques. The two subjects work well together as psychological factors play an important role in consumer behaviour and choices as well as informing general business knowledge of fields such as leadership, teamwork and culture management. You also have the opportunity to take a placement year between years two and three of your studies. What will this mean for my future? This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, a necessary first step for many professional careers in psychology including becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Psychological careers include clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, occupational or sports psychology. Your subject specific and transferable skill set will open up a diverse variety of career options for you to take into business, the public sector or the not-for-profit sector. You could work in commerce and industry, the health services, political parties or charities. Whatever path you choose in your working life, you will develop a psychological perspective on human behaviour which is valued in a range of careers.
