Psychology (Combined Honours)
BSc (Hons)
Why study this course?
If you are fascinated by two disciplines and don't want to choose, or have a
career in mind where a combination of subjects could give you the edge, then
please do explore the Combined Honours BSc Psychology courses that we offer.
Our academic staff are not only excellent, award-winning teachers, but also
leading researchers, pushing forward the boundaries of psychological knowledge.
Choosing Psychology as one half of a Combined Honours course
will enable you to develop your psychological knowledge and skills,
particularly critical thinking and research skills, while studying a second
subject to degree level.
The psychology that you study as part of a Combined Honours
Psychology course at Keele follows the same curriculum as Single
Honours and is taught by the same dedicated group of academic staff.
This means that the choice of topics is broadly similar to that in Single
Honours, ranging from brain electrophysiology to studies on alcohol,
and from conflict resolution and forgiveness to research on how young
people respond to advertising. Where Combined Honours Psychology
differs from Single Honours is that it includes approximately half of the
Psychology content of the Single Honours course, as time will be shared
with the other elected subject chosen, and so students do not study as
full a range of topics within Psychology as the Single Honours students
would.
What will this mean for my future?
Combined Honours Psychology courses at Keele carry the same
accreditation from the British Psychological Society as our Single Honours
course. As such, it is a suitable alternative first step for a professional
career in psychology, for example, becoming a Clinical Psychologist.
We believe that the strength of studying Psychology alongside another
discipline is that it gives you the flexibility to follow a variety of paths
in your working life. You will be able to draw upon a psychologically
informed perspective acquired from your studies at Keele.
All of our Combined Honours courses including Psychology are accredited by the
British Psychological Society.
