Psychology with Placement Year
BSc (Hons)
Why study this course?
This course shares all of the benefits of our Single Honours Psychology BSc (Hons)
course with the additional feature that students take a year out between level 5 and
6 to gain experience working in an industrial placement. Such work experience is
invaluable in forging a professional career in psychology.
On this course you will follow the Single Honours Psychology course
structure, however you will spend a year working within a health care
setting between level 5 and 6. This could be in areas such as adult
mental health, learning difficulties or a research environment, allowing
you to apply your psychological knowledge and skills in a practical
setting relevant to developing a professional psychology career. During
your time studying at Keele you will be fully immersed in the subject with
abundant choice of compulsory and elective modules in psychology. You
will share the excitement of discovering new psychological knowledge
working alongside our enthusiastic and supportive academic staff. You
will also benefit from the psychology specific learning support on offer
from our team of Teaching Fellows. You will graduate ready to use your
psychology skills and knowledge to make a real difference.
What will this mean for my future?
The placement year will enable you to develop your psychological
knowledge and skills, whilst gaining “on the job” experience. This will
also help you to develop your CV writing and interview skills. These
experiences will greatly enhance your employability prospects and help
you towards your chosen career. Psychological careers include clinical,
counselling, educational, forensic, occupational or sports psychology.
You could train as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, or enter a
range of careers such as health and social care, education, research,
charity work, government work, policy, human resources or marketing.
Whatever path you choose in your working life, you will develop a
psychological perspective on human behaviour which is valued in a
range of careers.
This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, a necessary first
step for many professional careers in psychology including becoming a Chartered
Psychologist.
