For Students Transferring to the BSN Program from within the University Students who have been admitted to another major at Gwynedd Mercy University and who express a desire to transfer into the nursing major ( BSN Program ) must contact the Coordinator of the BSN Program and be evaluated for admission into the nursing program . Students may request a change of major to nursing in April of each year after completing at least one semester of coursework . Grades for the spring semester will also be evaluated for acceptance into the major , and students will be notified after final spring grades are reviewed . Current students are permitted to apply once to the Nursing program .
Transfer evaluation is based on the following :
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• No grade below a C (“ C minus ” is not acceptable ) is acceptable in any university course
• All science courses require no grade less than a B minus . After receiving an acceptance notification letter for the nursing program , the student must complete a change of major form signed by the Assistant Dean of the FMMSNHP . The student can begin the nursing major courses in the next Fall semester but may continue to take general education and science requirements in the intervening semester .
Program Admissions Requirements and Procedures for Admission of Licensed Practical Nurses to the BSN Program : Licensed practical nurses ( LPN ) may receive credit through the life experience process for
NUR 209 Fundamentals of Nursing Practice provided they have fulfilled the following criteria :
• Have been licensed by examination in the state of Pennsylvania ( LPN )
• Have been accepted into the BSN program in compliance with admission policies for all students who apply for the BSN degree nursing program
• Have met the requirements for those accepted into the nursing program
• Have met the non-academic criteria for admission and retention
• Have received a grade no less than a B minus in the following transfer courses :. o Anatomy & Physiology I and II 8 credits o Microbiology 3 credits o Nutrition 3 credits Credit for NUR 209 Fundamentals of Nursing Practice is contingent on satisfactory performance on a lab practicum to demonstrate proficiency in required nursing skills . In addition , the LPN will be required
• To fulfill the mathematics requirement by satisfactorily passing the math competency examination with a score of 85 or higher .
• To complete NUR 208 Introduction to Professional Nursing
• To take Chemistry 111 with associated lab and pass both class and lab with a grade of “ C ” or higher
Major Requirements : NUT 200 ; CHM 111 , CHM 111 L , BIO 107 , 107L , 108 , 108L , 121 , MTH 103 Other General Education Requirements : total of 63 credits
