By: Salomé Velasquez Fino. 8-A
The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is a beautiful marine turtle that lives in warm oceans around the world. Its scientific name is Eretmochelys imbricata. It has a small head, a pointed beak, and a colorful shell, but this animal is threatened by habitat loss.
Hawksbill turtles live near coral reefs and eat mostly sponges. They are important because they help keep coral reefs healthy. However, these turtles face many dangers, such as pollution, fishing, habitat loss, and illegal hunting. Because of these problems, the Hawksbill Sea Turtle is critically endangered.
Today, people are working to protect Hawksbill Sea Turtles and their habitats. If we protect the oceans and coral reefs, these amazing animals can have a better future.

Extinction or swift parrots: what will be quicker?

By: Juan Diego Padilla Torres. 8-A
Swift parrots, also known as the“ fastest parrots alive,” are a species of parrot that live in southeastern Australia and can reach speeds of up to 90 km / h while flying.
They nest in eucalyptus forests and woodlands. It might seem like a peaceful spot to live, but sugar gliders climb up to their nests and destroy them. Sometimes, in extreme cases, they eat or attack the eggs and the babies.

The swift parrots have been pushed to the edge of extinction due to extensive hunting and human impact around their habitat, leaving them with fewer places to breed or nest. Not only do sugar gliders prey on them, but bigger birds, like hawks or eagles, do too.
Currently, up to 50 individuals roam in the wild, making them exotic and rare animals.
Some organizations, like“ Little Beaks Matter,” help these endangered bird species and lend them a hand to avoid extinction.
Fun Facts
• They nest in ancient eucalyptus trees.
• They are one of three migratory parrot species in the world.
• They live up to 15 years in perfect conditions.
