Quarter Finals Steve Beaton continued his good run of European Tour form with a 6-3 victory over Andy Hamilton. Beaton took out 109 to break throw in the opening leg of the encounter, but when he missed the bull for a 128 checkout in the fourth Hamilton was able to level the match at 2-2. Beaton took the next two legs, before both men landed 180s in the seventh with Hamilton claiming the leg to close the gap to a solitary leg. This was as good as it got for the Stoke-based thrower however as Beaton secured victory by taking the next two legs, indeed his impressive match winning leg was a 12-darter. “It was a tough one because Andy never gives in, so I’m happy with the result. I’ve got to win one of these sooner or later, so maybe it will be later tonight,” said Beaton. Dave Chisnall picked up a fourth 6-5 victory of the weekend, this time over Kevin Painter. The St Helens ace took out 96 to secure the opening leg of the encounter, but when he bust 60 in the second leg Painter was able to level the match. The in form Chisnall then pushed into a narrow 3-2 lead, before Painter was able to level up once more. ‘Chizzy’ regained his lead thanks to a 14-darter, Painter levelled again and then an 11-darter saw Chisnall edge back in front once more. He then missed three match darts to allow Painter to force a decider, but held his nerve to secure victory by landing double 19 in the eleventh and final leg. “It was always going to be 6-5 given what I’ve done this weekend. Hopefully it won’t be as tight in the semi-finals,” said Chisnall. Peter Wright ended the superb run of European Tour debutant Daryl Gurney with a 6-2 victory in the quarter finals stage. The Scotsman raced into a 3-0 lead before Gurney was able to land an 80 checkout to get on the board. Wright then landed a 180 to leave 164, but when he missed the bull to land the checkout Gurney was able to return, the Northern Irishman landing a 121 checkout to close the gap to a solitary leg. Unfortunately for Gurney this was as good as it was going to get as an in form Wright reeled off the next three legs, including a 14-darter, to secure victory and book his spot in the semi-finals. “I’m really happy to be in the semis. I started off well and then fell asleep halfway through the game, but luckily I got it back together and got the win,” said Wright. The fourth quarter final saw Richie Burnett produce a comeback victory over Jamie Caven. The Welshman found himself 1-0 and then 3-1 down in the early stages of the match after his Derby-based opponent found top form on his doubles to punish him for his own misses. Burnett soon levelled up, securing the fifth leg before a maximum helped him to land a 13-darter. Caven did edge back in front at 4-3 but Beaton was finding his feet and he soon levelled before a 66 checkout in two darts put him in front for the first time at 5-4. The match was sealed on double three by Burnett after the Welshman had initially “It was always going to be 6-5 given what I’ve done this weekend” Dave Chisnall “It was a tough one because Andy never gives in” Steve Beaton Photo: PDC/Lawrence Lustig Photo: Mike Glover/UK Darts Magazine
