Ian White claimed a maiden PDC Pro Tour victory in the second event of the weekend after he defeated Simon Whitlock 6-3 in a thrilling final.
The Stoke based thrower’s run to the final began with victories over Steve Hine and Adrian Gray, before he moved on to secure a 6-1 victory in his last 32 clash with fellow Stokie and former double World Champion Adrian Lewis. White then whitewashed Mark Walsh before the quarter finals saw him produce another fine display to secure a semi-final spot with a 6-2 victory over Joe Cullen. He then put pay to Wayne Jones’ best run for over twelve
months with a 6-1 defeat of the Wolverhampton based thrower in the semi-finals. Whitlock produced an early break of throw in the opening leg of the final, thanks to a 76 checkout, but White responded and soon found himself in front at 2-1. However ‘Diamond’ missed a dart at the bull which allowed Whitlock to level up at 2-2. From then on in the match became a one-sided affair, with White racing into a 5-2 lead before Whitlock postponed the inevitable in the eighth leg. It was all over in the ninth however as White landed a 100 checkout to secure the match and claim the £10,000 first prize.
