There was an all Dutch affair in the game between Remco Van Eidjen
and Wesley Harms. Wesley appeared to have the match sewn up, but
Remco won 6 legs on the bounce to win the game 6-5, having been 5-0
down.
At the end of the first night’s action, the diehard darting fans saw an
exceptional display from the Japanese qualifier who took the number 14
seed Paul Jennings all the way. Aiba Katsuya from Zushi-shi, Kanagawa,
Japan took legs in 14, 15 and 16 darts before Paul broke the throw in
the last leg to win 6-5.
They also saw Jan Dekker take on qualifier Lee Williams as yet another
game went to the final leg with Jan coming through 6-5. Williams from
Oldham in Lancashire is one to watch out for. He has recently returned
to competition darts and if he can put some good runs together this
may not be his only TV appearance.
Jeffrey De Graaf against Mick Haynes and Glen Durrant against Dave
Prins gave the Blackpool crowd exceptional games with some very
high scoring when play resumed on the Friday night. Jeffrey and Mick
between them hit 38 ton+ scores, whilst Glen and Dave hit 47. Glen
and Dave also impressed, hitting 106 and 116
out shots respectively to the delight of the
crowd, but it was De Graaf and Prins
who eventually came through.
Dave Cameron and Scott Mitchell
opened up the second half of the
evening with Scott giving a very
impressive performance beating
the Canadian 6-0 with an end
average of 96.
Another young player in the form
of 19-year-old Harley Kemp put in
an impressive performance against
the Dazzler Darryl Fitton. Darryl was the
eventual winner, 6-5, but Harley played very well
and built on his recent Lakeside performance.
Martin Adams took to the stage to play Lancashirebased qualifier Robert Rickwood. Both players scored
well throughout, but it was Adams who eventually took
