Second Round
The opening stages of Martin Adams’ match with Jan Dekker were too
close to call, with the pair trading leg after leg to head in at the
break level at 3-3. The former World Champion started the stronger
after the break, taking the opening leg, before he landed back-to-back
180s to set up a nine-dart opportunity in the next. Wolfie looked odds
on to complete the nine-darter after hitting treble twenty and treble
nineteen with ease, but in the event his attempt at double 12 was
some distance away.
Adams did return to secure the leg with his tenth dart, before going on
to take the match 7-5, gaining a measure of revenge for his defeat to
Dekker in this years Lakeside quarter finals.
Earlier the crowd were entertained by Alan Norris and Jim Williams,
who traded breaks of throw early on before a burst of clinical finishing
from Norris saw him race into a 4-1 lead. Welshman Williams, who was
still in the process of recovering from appendicitis surgery, did produce
a fightback as Norris faltered towards the end of the match, but in the
end it was too little too late as Norris booked his place in the quarter
finals with a 7-3 victory.

The evening was rounded off with the match between the number
3 seed Robbie Green and Karel Sedlacek from the Czech Republic.
On paper Robbie was a clear favorite to win the game but Karel had
different ideas and raced into a 4-0 lead. Robbie had nothing wrong with
his scoring but poor doubling cost him and he eventually succumbed
6-1. This was a remarkable game to round off the early stages of the
tournament. Robbie averaged 91.61 and Karel 93.81.
