Daily Mirror World Trop After two days of qualifying the top stars from the BDO joined in the action in the Tower Ballrooms in Blackpool for what turned out to be a thrilling tournament. Come Sunday 9th February it was James Wilson who lifted the trophy and claimed the £30,000 first prize, but along with Wilson fans and players everywhere can be pleased with the result of this new tournament. Wilson On Top At The Tower First Round There were shock early exits for former Lakeside Champion Scott Waites and Tony O’Shea on the first day’s play in Blackpool. Scott came up against an in form Jim Williams from Wales with the game going to an exciting deciding leg which Jim took in 12 darts. It was another Jim – Jim Widmayer from the USA who defeated Tony O’Shea. Widmayer, from New York, hit an 82 average as he took the game 6 legs to 4. There was a win for Gary Robson, who defeated Jeroen Geerdink 6-1, before the crowd were treated to the return to the oche of Andy Fordham who took on the Lakeside Runner-up Alan Norris.
