MY MOST MEMORABLE CIGARS Harry Borovick (far right) with (from left) Joe Neale, Tom Randall and Edward Sahakian By Harry Borovick Third generation cigar smoker and amateur collector based in Soho. I’m a passionate Ramon Allones fan, having spent half a year travelling through as much of Asia as I could with one in hand. Cigar One: 1975 Montecristo Number 3 Cigar Two: 2008 Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Cabinet 50 Where & When? A Sunday evening poker night whilst we could still call it Summer earlier this year. It was just close friends from the Soho Whisky Club and another friend with far greater cigar knowledge and experience than myself; Tom Randall of 1a St James. Where & When? Bulgari Hotel, The Edward Sahakian Cigar Room. Why was it memorable? A perfect moment of cards, incredible vintage Montecristo flavours, great friends and great food. A phenomenal cigar in the most casual of Sunday evening circumstances. It didn’t hurt that the game went pretty well for me! This cigar couldn’t have been better timed. We had smoked phenomenal regionals, including this year’s tremendous Asia Pacifico RE Diplomaticos Bushido. Nothing could beat this No.3 though, it was the pinnacle of a perfect night. 17 Why was it memorable? My first ever Cabinet 50. The last 5-6 years has been a haze of both Ramon Allones in general, and this cigar in particular since I discovered the Cab.50 boxes in late 2012. Bought at the suggestion of Mike Choi and Kevin Shinduke. A lesson in listening to those with vast knowledge and experience to give. Thankfully there are plenty in the London cigar scene. This cigar is, to my taste, the epitome of what every modern Ramon Allones, and even a lot of more premium (in price only) cigars are trying to be. A cigar full of depth, complex flavours, and one of the few I could smoke one after the other.
