their everyday lives. At the end of their stunt shows they don’ t go their separate ways: it’ s a community, they eat together, work together, party together and fight together. The viewers get to see what goes on behind the stunts and the crashes and that’ s a real draw for Generation Z.”
4K UHD provides the perfect platform for content creators such as Sky Vision who INSIGHT TV commissioned to create Access All Areas, Strix Video( Living Stone), LSP( King of the Hammers) and XTreme Video( MTB Heroes and Inside the Masters of Dirt). When making Inside the Masters of Dirt over the past year XTreme Video, one of the largest multiplatform networks representing around 500 extreme online content creators and social influencers from motocross, BMX, mountain biking, surfing, skateboarding- the list goes on- wanted to combine the experience that the M. O. D crew has shooting footage of the arena shows for digital platforms and their own experience of bringing the best content to TV networks such as INSIGHT TV. It also wanted to give the crew’ s massive( two million +) social media following greater access to their everyday lives, all shot in the highest quality 4K UHD.
As well as the Millennials and Generation-Z, production companies selected by INSIGHT TV are also important to technology providers. Action sports filmmakers and outdoor photographers are always early adopters of the best technology in filmography, filmmaking, virtual reality and the latest in 4K UHD footage. Higher frame rates and the very best in high-definition quality is essential to the filming of the world’ s most extreme stunts and performance sports. It’ s impossible for viewers to capture the essence of the action without the most detailed capture of its impact from the field.
In fact, the massive success of Action Cameras is thanks in part to Xtreme creators quickly adapting to the camera and understanding how they could use it. They were the first to try 3D, HD and now UHD, which is a perfect fit for this genre of TV due to the visual nature of the show and how precisely it reflects the moves they make on the bike in whichever stunt they perform. Then there’ s the scenery in many stunning locations.
Other than the amazing visual quality that 4K UHD brings, there are other benefits to shooting in UHD. At the editing stage, editors can use close ups of larger scenes, which means that they can zoom in on one area of the image and capture the moment in UHD, which is a major benefit. However, despite the huge benefits that UHD brings there is a big technical gap. Operators need to provide more UHD signals to end users because UHD is the next viewing experience for consumers around the world. 3D was a gimmick but UHD is something that’ s going to come very quickly and be adopted by everyone. INSIGHT is overcoming these current technical challenges by making
its UHD channel available globally via its SVoD platform, which was launched at MIPTV 2017 alongside the android and iOS INSIGHT TV Apps.
As well as the success of UHD, we’ re also seeing a lot of reports about HDR. To slightly confuse matters there are two definitions for HDR, one is a greater dynamic range of luminosity when shooting still photographs or video, the other is display screens that allow the whites within the picture to be whiter and the darks darker. In this instance, we are talking about the latter.
In mid-February 2017, members of the UHD Alliance gathered in Geneva to assess the current status of the UHDTV market. They noted that HDR has emerged as one of the key drivers for sales of UHD devices. The UHD Alliance provides information on premium UHD devices and content to deliver best-inclass home entertainment. It’ s also focused on helping consumers identify the in-home and mobile products and content that deliver a truly differentiated UHD HDR experience to consumers.
In 2016, INSIGHT TV added HDR to its broadcast specifications. United, a strategic partner of INSIGHT TV, raised the technical bar to a new level by adding HDR to the post production process. INSIGHT TV and United are continuing to work together further developing their HDR strategy. At MIPCOM 2016, INSIGHT TV announced it would be producing The 30 // 10 Challenge in HDR and in partnership with The Go Big Project, a production company based in Los Angeles, will create future series in Ultra HD HDR 50P.
Technology such as the INSIGHT TV UHD SVoD app is providing a simple introduction for consumers to view hundreds of hours of UHD content with creative non-scripted programmes that capture the audience’ s imagination, tapping into the social influencer market, creating a new opportunity to bring the younger demographic to the 4K UHD HDR TV screen.
