JCU Pathway College The JCU Pathway College is your clear and direct pathway into study at JCU. The College offers a flexible path to university study – with committed teaching staff available to support you at every stage of your journey. The JCU Pathway College is your clear and direct pathway into study at JCU. The College represents a dynamic partnership between James Cook University and two Institutes of TAFE: the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE (TNQIT) in Cairns and the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE (BRIT) in Townsville. The College currently offers a variety of English Language study programs in Townsville and Cairns, allowing you to further your English language while in Australia before starting the JCU degree of your choice. A foundation program and range of diploma programs are planned to be offered under the JCU Pathway College, offering you an academic pathway into JCU studies. The Pathway College currently operates from the JCU Cairns campus, the Cairns campus of TNQIT, and the Townsville campus of BRIT. depend on your English language level at the time of application (as determined by an IELTS score or equivalent) and the English requirement for your chosen course. English for Academic Purposes English for Academic Purposes is taught through our Direct Entry English Program (DEEP), which will equip you with the English language skills required to study at a tertiary institution in Australia. Classes focus on academic requirements and expectations, and learning strategies needed at a tertiary level. Once you have successfully completed the Direct Entry English Program, you will be eligible to enter a range of certificate and diploma courses at the JCU Pathway College, Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE and the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE, as well as specific undergraduate and postgraduate courses at James Cook University. English Language Programs The JCU Pathway College offers English language programs designed to help you qualify for tertiary study, successfully sit an English language exam or improve your English communication skills. If you meet the academic entry requirements for a degree but not the English Language entry requirements, JCU can issue you with a ‘packaged offer’ consisting of a period of Academic English language studies through the JCU Pathway College, plus an offer into the JCU degree program. This ‘package’ will allow you to receive a student visa for the entire duration of your studies. The length of the English study period will General English (GE) Program General English Intensive courses are also available. Courses are designed to develop your confidence in using English for general purposes. You will improve your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation so you can communicate more effectively in English. If desired you can develop your skills in English to a point where you can progress to the Direct Entry English Program (DEEP 1). Courses options range from elementary to advanced levels.
