OUR CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY
The Campaign has laid the groundwork for future campus capital projects like the new Triton Center . This new four-building project will be a nexus of activity at the center of campus . It will comprise the Alumni and Welcome Center , the Student Success Building — housing the Teaching + Learning Commons , the Triton Transfer Center and Global Education — and a hub for Student Health and Well-Being . The complex will also include a celebration space and a meta gallery that will integrate augmented reality , virtual reality and physical art , all in one space . The long-awaited Alumni and Welcome Center will serve as a meeting space for alumni , students and members of the community . It will also capture the official ( and unofficial ) history of UC San Diego through curated exhibitions featuring alumni , campus traditions and more . The university is now connected to the region like never before with the opening of the 11-mile extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line trolley to campus . And just steps from its downtown stop , UC San Diego Park & Market opened in May 2022 .
UC San Diego Park & Market is designed to serve the entire San Diego community as a social and intellectual hub for civic engagement , learning and collaboration . The flexible design of the space supports the university ’ s commitment to connecting with the cultural heritage and shared values of the region ’ s diverse social , cultural and economic community .
Longtime UC San Diego donor Malin Burnham and his wife , Roberta , committed $ 3 million to support a partnership between the Burnham Center for Community Advancement and UC San Diego . This led to the creation of a “ civic collaboratory ” at Park & Market focused on bringing together great minds to advance the region .
David and Claire Guggenheim also gave $ 1 million to the project , establishing their namesake David and Claire Guggenheim Theatre , a 225-seat black box theater used for a wide range of performances and teaching .
Alumni and Welcome Center
