The 5th installment of the Business of Architecture Lecture
Series was held last October 6 & 7, Saturday and Sunday,
at the SM Aura Convention Center in Taguig. It featured
not one, but two lecture modules (or seminars), each
representing two main topics of interest – the architectural
practice and the country's built heritage.
Module 01 is titled Beyond Architecture. It explored the
architect's regular services and dealt with relevant issues,
standards, and trends currently affecting the architecture
profession. The first set happened on October 6, Saturday.
It featured speakers such as Ar. Suzette Chua-Caringal
on Design and Build Services; Ar. Delano M. Marzo on
Integrated Project Delivery; and Ar. Armando M. Alli on
Architecture Consulting.
The second set was held on October 7, Sunday, and
featured Ar. Edison Ching M. Padilla on Basic Occupational
Safety and Health for Construction & Fire and Life Safety
Principles; Ar. Maria Cynthia Ylagan-Funk on The Relevance
and Challenge of Advanced Architecture; and Ar. J. Antonio
Vicente D. Mercado on Introduction to Philippine Green
Building Code.
Module 02 is titled Connecting the Dots: An Interdisciplinary
Approach to Heritage Preservation. Module 02 discussed in
detail the facts surrounding our country's built heritage as
it balances between historical precedents and fundamental
techniques.

The first set was held simultaneously with Module 01, on
October 6, Saturday. It featured speakers such as Prof.
Maria Bernardita Maronilla-Reyes on Analysis of Building
Materials; Engr. Reginald Juan M. Mercado on Automation
in Diagnosing Heritage Structures; Ar. Arnulfo F. Dado
on Legal Process & Pertinent Details in Declaration of
Heritage Structures; and Ar. Rino Domingo A. Fernandez
on Revisiting Traditional Pre-1565 Architectural Form
in the Philippines and Its Influence to Spanish Colonial
Architecture.
Likewise, the second set was held on October 7, Sunday,
and featured speakers such as Ar. Ferdinand I. dela Paz
on The Form and Shape of Marikina: A Discussion on
Architecture and Heritage; Dr./Ar. Gerard Rey A. Lico
on Arkitekturang Filipino: A History of Architecture and
Urbanism in the Philippines; Engr. Anthony Vladimir C.
Pimentel on Conducting Performance-Based Simulation
on Heritage Structure As Preparation Against Earthquakes;
and, last but not the least, Dr. Victor S. Venida on
Economics in Heritage Preservation.
