BALANGKASAN SA CBD!
UAP MAKATI CBD CHAPTER
held Its First Ever Balangkasan
Story by: Ar. Joselito Loreto L. Bersamina Jr., UAP
"Up to what point shall we conserve or preserve and
up to what point shall we rebuild anew?"
This was the nagging question which highly
influenced the discussion on the recently concluded
Balangkasan sa CBD which happened on November
10, 2018, Saturday at the Wilcon Depot IT Hub along
Chino Roces Ave. corner EDSA, Makati City.
Hosting Balangkasan was the first in the history of
CBD and it is in cooperation with the UAP Committee
on Balangkasan facilitated by Arch. Sylvester
Seno, through the coordination of Ar. Reynaldo
M. Cristobal Jr., CBD Vice President for Programs
and Development. The planning of CBD’s first ever
Balangkasan started with a dream. A dream to open
an opportunity to every single member to be heard
and participate in our GMM. A dream that through
constructive and open exchange of opinions,
something tangible and very real will spring out of
our collective enterprise. Through the guidance of
UAP Balangkasan Committee, and the support of
each and every member, this came to pass.
Balangkasan sa CBD’s guest speakers were, from the
side of pro-heritage were Ar. Ramil Tibayan and Robert F.
Tomas. On the side of pro-modernism were Ar. Walther N.
Tomas and Ar. Joseph AdG. Javier. The reactors were Mr.
Erik Akpedonu from Germany and Sir Andrew Arriola, a
Baranggay Councilor in Binondo, Manila.
It was a highly-charged discussion dissecting the very
essence of heritage preservation and modernism, two
ends of the spectrum needing the essential middle ground
in order to reach a common direction in the development
of Philippine architecture and the improvement of our built
environment.
In the end, a resolution has been made and signed by
everyone present.
