In January TY Ireland in partnership with QQI hosted our first ever Workshop and Seminar Series catering specifically for the needs of the external service providers to Transition Year .

!

External service providers , for want of a better term , are those companies , bodies and initiatives that operate on the periphery of the TY programme but whose input strikes at the very heart of the TY aims and objectives .

!

To mark the occasion we hosted the event in the fantastic ( and very central ) Customs House Building in Dublin 1 , where the staff of EPIC took great care of our every need .

!

We had a tremendous turn-out for a mid-week event and hosted delegates from all sectors of the industry and from every corner of the country .

!

REACHING TY

The purpose of the event was to identify and address some of the common challenges we all face in this unconventional sector of the education market . As Finian O ’ Connor put it , “ External Service Providers provide students with the most memorable components of Transition Year ’, adding that , all-too-often such efforts are “ overlooked or unrecognised ” by the school bodies .

!

The format for the afternoon was a series of short , focused presentations followed by Q & A . There was also an opportunity for delegates to network with one another , a huge potential spin-off of this endeavour , as we believe there is a lot of opportunities for the combined approach where overlaps present themselves .

!

Our key speaker was TYI Ambassador Reece Sheridan who impressed the audience with his presentation but moreso with his insight . “ Communicating with students ” caught many delegates completely ( and pleasantly ) by surprise and you could literally see business plans being altered as he spoke .
TY UPDATE MARCH 2017
In a similar vain , Finian O ’ Connor gave insight into “ Communicating with teachers ” with follow-up presentations by key industry players focused on “ Profile Building ”, “ Partner Opportunities ”, “ Advancing Authenticity ”, “ and Opportunities in Sharing .”

!

The response was overwhelming and immediate ( e . g . PureSkill , see page 25 devised a whole new integrated offering during the event and is already rolling it out .)

!

We see an increased need for these kind of events as they are mutually beneficial to service providers in the sector , and we are looking for ways in which we can roll these out over time .
