Professor Christopher John Miles ( D , 53-57 ); died 15.9.2023 . Art Prize 1957-8 , Photographic Prize 1958 . Aged 15 , he became the first person to show 8mm film on television . National Service in Intelligence Corps . Scholar Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques , Paris , diplome , directors ’ course , best student film of year 1962 . Film director / producer / writer , appointed Professor of Film & Television at the Royal College of Art , London 1989-93 . He was also a British Council lecturer in India , Mauritius , and Cuba . At the age of 23 , he was Nominated for an Oscar in 1964 for ‘ The Six-Sided Triangle ’. Other films included ‘ The Virgin and the Gypsy ’, ‘ Time for Loving ’, ‘ The Maids ’, ‘ Priest of Love ’, ‘ Zinotchka ’, ‘ Lord Elgin and Some Stones of No Value ’, ‘ The Clandestine Marriage ’ and ‘ Fire from Olympia ’. Screenplays included Alternative 3 ( co-authored with David Ambrose ) and Love in the Ancient World ( with John Julius Norwich ). He was patron of the Christopher Marlowe Society and vice-president of the DH Lawrence Society . He loved long walks and sketching in Arcadia . He married Susan Armstrong in 1967 , who survives him . Stockbroker 1968-92 with Laurence Keen and in 1993 he set up Barwell , a venture capital firm that supported start-ups in the life sciences and clean technology . Trust ; member , Scottish Lifeboat Council RNLI and helped finance a new Stornoway lifeboat named after his father ; member , Royal Company of Archers ; member , Executive Committee Standing Council of The Baronetage ; Past Master Old Wykehamist Lodge and Rose Croix Chapter ; FRGS . He also donated a full peal of bells from the London Bell Foundry to St Luke ’ s Church , Charlton in southeast London near where his mother ’ s family came from . He then joined BUPA , Main Board Director , International Development 1993-2002 . Non-executive director HBOS Insurance 2001 . Chaired Friends of the Ashmoleon Museum and a Distinguished Friend of Oxford University . A keen traveller and sailor , he also shot and was an enthusiastic tennis and bridge player . He married Melanie Foster in 1980 , who survives him together with a daughter and a son .
Andrew Charles Brownrigg ( C , 56-61 ); died 13.10.2023 . Son of CAGB , brother of JGHB . Golf Team 1960-1 . Trained in accountancy with Turquand Young & Co ., 1962-6 . He worked for Gallaghers 1966-8 ; IBM 1968-73 ; Abbey Life 1973-4 , before starting a career in Travel . Bridge Travel 1974-5 ; Sightseeing International 1975-9 . Managing director , Gilt-Edge Travel 1979-88 and then Haslemere Travel . He was , for 3 years , chairman of CARTA / AiTO , an organization promoting the very best of personalized travel for which he had always been an ardent supporter . Director of the Haslemere Festival 2003 . President of the Haslemere Chamber of Commerce 1999-2001 . A great supporter of the OWGS , Captain 2010-11 , and played in the Halford Hewitt and Gerald Micklem . Horace Hutchinson , possibly the first truly great and renowned English amateur player , was one of his ancestors , of which he was very proud . He married Diana Gardner- Brown in 1979 , who survives him together with their 2 daughters .
Trevor John Bissett Newman ( B , 56-61 ); died 26.4 . 2023 . Brother of PWN and DJWN . VI . Jesus College Cambridge , Architecture , BA 1963 , MA 1967 . He worked as an architect with Higgs and Hill , Triad , Helix and with MAAPS after 1983 . He specialised in planning and construction on UK sites and building housing in Ghana , Riyadh and Algarve . Publications : Studies in Energy Conversion ; United Nations . A successful architect and a skilful carpenter . He married Louisa Hoare in 1968 , who survives him together with 2 daughters and a son .
