No . 136 The Trusty Servant who turned the ball home smartly from a corner . Unfortunately , we couldn ’ t hold onto that lead and ended up going 3-1 down . James Essex ( I , 06-11 ) grabbed a late goal as we pushed for a late equaliser that never came .
The following week saw us play Malvern on what was and felt like the hottest Saturday of the year . Once again , we took the lead through a corner . Two lapses in concentration saw Malvern hit back and take the lead . 10 minutes before the half Mike Hodnett ( C , 08-13 ) split the defence with a pass that James Essex latched onto to score . We had a couple more chances to take a lead going into halftime but it wasn ’ t meant to be . The second half was end to end with both teams being denied right at the last moment . For Malvern , it was due to some last-ditch challenges and for us it was the lack of goal line technology , which meant no goal was given after the ball rebounded off the underside of the bar over the line . Both teams pushed for an equaliser but had to settle for a draw . Our first point of the season !
Following a week off , we faced our Arthur Dunn Cup opponents , Radley . For the third game in a row , the OWs took an early lead through Ben Stevens ( E , 05-10 ) and for the third game in a row , we found ourselves 2-1 down . We pushed for an equaliser and were given a lifeline when Alex Dawkins won a penalty after being fouled by the keeper . Matt Black ( H , 05-10 ) stepped up and tucked the rebound home following ‘ an unbelievable save ’ ( his penalty was a very saveable height to the keeper ’ s right ). The game finished 2-2 setting up a very juicy cup tie .

WSC put on a successful defence of the Sir Reginald Bennett Trophy over the weekend of 16th- 17th September at Seaview Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight .
The Reggie Bennett trophy started in the late Nineties as a way of introduction to keelboat racing . Seaview is considered an ideal host given its strong connections to the College through numerous alumni and its charter fleet of onedesign Mermaids , which provide an introduction to keelboat racing for beginners . Over time the event has grown to six teams , with pupils and alumni teams from Radley College and Ryde Academy joining recently .
This year ’ s event was brought to an early close by the weather , with a substantial storm making its presence felt just after the first race and forcing all teams , umpires and race offices off the water for the day . Despite the early curtailment , the race officers were able to determine winners for all trophies , with the OWs securing not only the Reggie Bennett Trophy against the boys but also silverware for 1st alumni team and 1st overall .
The OW team comprised Jim Eynon ( H , 94-99 ), Noel Dobbs ( D , 50-55 ), Richard Dobbs ( D , 79-84 ), Tiger Tellwright ( I , 13-18 ), Gerard Cloke Browne ( B , 14-19 ) and Marcus Cloke Brown ( B , 17-22 ), and Casper Gray ( B ,
