Institute of Technology , Japan , 1998-99 . He published several papers and articles on linguistics . He loved music ( Grade 6 recorder ), reading , travel , gardening and photography . He married Juliet Palmer in 1978 and is survived by a daughter .
Richard Anthony White ( F , 64-69 ); died 1.2024 . Son of RCW , brother of DHW and PMW . 3rd generation of Wykehamists , father to son . Lancaster University , lived in Southport where he pursued various occupations , until emigrating to Spain , where he provided online English lessons for Spanish diplomats , and became a central figure in the expatriate community . Married to Lesley Hall with two children .
Graeme Lewis Sims Black ( C , 70-74 ); died 26.10.2023 . Brother of ABSB and QJSB . University of Exeter 1976 , 2 ( 1 ) Eng Sci 1978 ; London Business School 1981-3 , MBA . He worked mainly overseas after university , in Zimbabwe , Australia and New Zealand . Management consultancy London and Australasia after 1983 . He was then much involved in his family ’ s extensive business interests in Australasia ( largest owners of forests in NZ ) and he founded and ran Lignor Ltd , which made carbon friendly engineered wood products . His passions were many , but biodiversity was a particular love : his family gave the enormous Yanga station to the New South Wales Government to assist development in this area . He kept the homestead and lake and ‘ just a few hundred hectares …’. He was a keen and determined tennis player and a relentless devotee of Word Play . He loved music and was instrumental in an online choir during lockdown . He married ( 1 ) Sally Romanes in 1984 , marriage dissolved , and ( 2 ) Martina , who survives him together with 2 daughters and a son from the first marriage .
Richard James Cocksedge ( D , 70-74 ); died 2.10.2023 . Kings College London , LLB . After a brief spell at de Zoete and Bevan , the stockbroker later bought by Barclays , he returned to the law and worked for a firm of solicitors Tosswill & Co in Brixton , where he had many interesting cases . In the late 1990s he decided to follow his passion and qualified for the Diploma of Wine and set up his own wine importing and wholesaling business called Ockse Wines . He discovered many up-and-coming winemakers in Portugal , Italy and France . In retirement he became a prolific longdistance runner . He was also a keen flyfisherman . He married Denise Larnder , who survives him .
Antony ( Jasper ) Jonathan Ward Barnes ( K , 77-81 ); died 27.10 2023 . Son of EJWB , brother of SWSB . Exhibitioner . University of Southampton , Business Economics & Accounting , BSc 2:2 , 1985 ; FCA , FCT ; Corporate Treasurers ’ Association Prize 1992 . Chartered Accountant & Corporate Treasurer with Toyota , Amersham , GUS and Experian , in Britain , the Netherlands and Ireland . He was a vigorous evangelical Christian who actively shared his time , mentoring and financial skills to support Tearfund , Hope into Action and Stewardship as well as his church communities . Having broken his neck and back in 7 places in 2010 , he additionally became a generous promoter of the Spinal Injuries Association and its Aspire Housing programme . He married Caragh Rentoul , who survives him , together with a daughter and 3 sons .
Andrew Johnson ( Coll , 79-84 ); died 20.2.2024 . Cap Prae . Whilst at Win Coll , he learned to ring bells and this was an important part of his life . Trinity Hall , Cambridge , Class 1 Electrical & Information Science , BA 1988 , MA 1992 . Software Engineer , International Business Machines 1988 , assignment to Austin , Texas 1999-2001 . Inventor of 11 patents ; Chartered Engineer 2006 . Over the course of his career , he worked in different areas , starting out in hardware but then working on java script , helping to resolve a crisis for the Bank of Hong Kong , and moving on to the ‘ internet of things ’ which would connect a range of smart devices including kettles and refrigerators . He rang regularly on Sunday mornings for services at New Alresford and in Twyford as well as going to weekly bellringing practices in both towers . The annual dinner for the Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers , when he returned to Cambridge and caught up with ringing friends across the years , was a highlight . He married Theodora Parsons , who survives him together with 2 daughters .
