Trusty Servant May 2023 | Page 40

No . 135 The Trusty Servant itinerary will take us to many of the important sites and monuments , including the monastery itself , and we will walk the ground on which the bitter struggle took place . As ever , the tour will have at its heart the fates and experiences of those who fought , particularly OWs , whose graves and places of remembrance we will visit , both in the vicinity of Monte Cassino
itself and further south , where Allied forces met strong resistance from German troops and where a number of Wykehamists were casualties . The Second World War is close enough that many of us have relatives who were involved , and we always like , where possible , to incorporate any family stories of those who join us . As with our previous battlefield tours ,
we hope that this will also be a great opportunity for different generations of Wykehamists to bond over memories of school , a shared interest in the Second World War , and plenty of good local food and wine . A Hot will almost certainly be held ! If you would be interested in being part of this , and for further details , please email wincollsoc @ wincoll . ac . uk .
