No . 135 The Trusty Servant
OW Gathering in the Cape On 8 th February a group of OWs and their guests gathered at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden near Stellenbosch and afterwards for lunch at the nearby Kleine Zalze wine estate restaurant .
Looking at the assembled crowd , one OW remarked ‘ I wonder how many of us are “ swallows ”’. The answer from the Trusty Servant is that two thirds had flown south for the winter , while one third were local residents .
David Fellowes ( I , 63-67 and a swallow ), not content with hosting the Wykeham Patrons ’ trip in Kwa-Zulu Natal the week before , made the impeccable arrangements with his customary meticulous skill .
Once gathered , we were regaled to a tour de force from Clem Sunter ( E , 57-63 ) who explained his ‘ mind-of-a-fox ’ approach to thinking and decision-making . ‘ All our decisions are about the future , whether it ’ s tomorrow , next year , or the next decade , yet our choices are often undermined by desires , expectations and common mental mistakes ’.
Mind of a Fox . Clem Sunter ( E , 57-63 ) mid flow .
Not swallows , but James Elkington ( F , 79-83 ) and Tony Ross ( D , 55-59 )
Under 30s Drinks 14th April Meeting in a venue not previously graced by Win Coll Soc , over 100 OWs in their teens and twenties met at BrewDog , Waterloo . The large numbers in attendance might have been inflated by the OW cricketers who met there , or it could have been the presence of two housemasters , present and past , who attracted Hopperites and Chawkerites in abundance . By the time of this publication The Trusty Servant hopes that OWs in their 30s will be at least as enthusiastic their reunion in May . Other images can be viewed on the Win Coll Soc website .
