Called to the Bar 1959 by Inner Temple ; his reputation for handling voluminous , complex cases resulted in an increasingly busy practice . Queen ’ s Counsel 1977 ; his involvement with steering the Lloyd ’ s of London private bill through Parliament and drafting a new constitution for the Council in 1982 led to a long professional association with Lloyd ’ s . Bencher , Inner Temple ; Reader 2001 , and Treasurer 2002 . Deputy High Court Judge ; Senior Judge of Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey ; President , Lloyd ’ s Appeal Tribunal . He retired in 2004 and became closely involved with the Salisbury Diocese . Sailing , tennis and hill walking in Ireland were all sources of relaxation and an antidote to his more cerebral activities . He married Belinda Pownall , who survives him together with their son and daughter .

Schoolmaster : Tabor Academy USA 1960-61 ; Abberley Hall 1961-8 ; Headmaster , Eagle House , Sandhurst 1968-74 ; Headmaster , Abberley Hall 1974-96 ; he retired in 1996 . He married Mary O ’ Neill in 1965 , who survives him together with their 2 sons .
Jonathan Dermot Spence ( E , 49-54 ); died 25.12.2021 . National Service BAOR 1954-56 . Clare College Cambridge , BA in Chinese 1959 , co-editor Granta magazine . Mellon Fellowship and graduate work at Yale , PhD 1965 , associate professor 1968 , professor 1971 . For 40 years his lectures were always in demand , and he discovered the big picture of Chinese history in small details . His books , thoroughly researched , explored individual lives and strange moments representative of greater cultural forces , and wrapped it all up in vivid stories . His Yale lectures became the core of The Search for Modern China : interest in that book was increased by the fact that it was published not long after the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 : ‘ Professor Spence ’ s long gaze provided valuable context to those events ’. Fellow of the British Academy 1997 , CMG . He married ( 1 ) Helen Alexander , divorced , and ( 2 ) Annping Chin in 1993 , who survives him together with 2 sons from the first marriage .
Simon Tucker Grandage ( G , 50-55 ); died 30.10.2021 . Co Prae ; 2Lt 4 / 7 Royal Dragoon Guards 1955-7 . Chartered accountant with Tansley Witt and Binder Hamlyn 1957- 68 , ACA 1963 . He was then an international investment banker : executive director , Crédit Suisse First Boston and then Managing Director Merrill Lynch Europe 1968-84 ; from 1984-2010 he was self-employed , mainly as an independent adviser to Mitsubishi Corporation Finance in London . He married Barbara Brett in 1962 , who survives him together with their son .
Hon Sir Thomas Richard Atkin Morison ( H , 52-57 ); died 19.3.2022 . Son of HTBM , father of BCAM . Worcester College Oxford , Hist and 2 Law 1962 . 2 Bar Finals 1959 ; QC 1979 ; Bencher , Gray ’ s Inn 1987 ; Recorder 1987-93 ; Knighted 1993 ; High Court Judge , Queen ’ s Bench Division 1993-2007 . 1996-1999 . ‘ Tom was a hugely popular member of Chambers and judge , with a mischievous sense of humour and abhorring any form of pretentiousness or pomposity .’ His hobbies included reading , gardening , cooking and walking the dog . He served as a local councillor in Wiltshire . He married ( 1 ) Judith Morris in 1963 , marriage dissolved in 1992 , and ( 2 ) Caroline Yates in 1993 , who survives him , together with a son and daughter from the first marriage .
Colin John McCrae Harrisson ( B , 53-57 ); died 6.3.2022 . Army 1960- 1992 , commissioned Rifle Brigade 1960 ; wide variety of appointments in UK and overseas in Regimental ( RGJ ), operational command and staff appointments including command of Battalion 1979-81 and Brigade 1989-91 in Northern Ireland and including 5 years as Army helicopter pilot ; OBE 1980 . Chief Executive , King Edward VII ’ s Hospital ( Sister Agnes ) 1992-2005 , where he saw through a number of changes to its constitution , in particular allowing all ranks and their spouses to benefit ; CVO 2005 . Member of the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber , hearing appeals for compensation from serving and ex service personnel who had been wounded or disabled during their service ; President of the Rifle Brigade Association ; Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance . He married Jane Humphrey in 1967 , who survives him together with a son and daughter .
