In 1984 , he established a consultancy business employing Radiation Protection Advisers serving industry and research institutes across the UK , travelling widely to lecture on radiation safety issues , including Chernobyl ; JP 1975-2000 . His scientific mind applied to just about everything and he also loved the sea , cruising the Hebrides and Norwegian coastline and charting with pinpoint accuracy . He moved back to his ancestral Cornwall in retirement to a creek-side home . He married Felicity Walton in 1956 who survives him together with their 3 sons and a daughter .
Andrew Thomas Radburne ( Rads ) Fuller ( K , 44-48 ); died 11.1.2021 . St Thomas ’ s Hospital Medical School , London University ; MB , BS 1954 ; DA , DORCoG , FFARCS 1960 ; in 1957 he worked as a locum in New Zealand . He at first trained as an anaesthetist before moving into general practice , initially in Monmouth . Medical Officer to Southampton University 1966-87 . All his life he had been a keen gardener and plantsman and devoted his retirement to his beloved garden , filling it with colour and a vast array of plants . He also renewed his love of watercolour painting and joined several groups , always painting from life-never copying . Having developed Diabetes type 1 in 1938 he led a very regimented life in order to keep a tight control on it and was thus one of very few people who lived with it for over 83 years . He coped courageously with all its problems and with other health issues . He married Elizabeth Bowman in 1960 , who survives him together with their son and 2 daughters .
Michael Graham Mander ( H , 45-49 ); died 28.10.2020 . Brother of MIM . Co Prae . Mons OCTU , Stick of Honour ; 2 Lt 10th Royal Hussars 1950 ; Shropshire Yeomanry 1952-8 . In 1952 he joined the family paint and printing-ink business , Manders , and visited Russia , one of the first people to go there after the Second World War ; followed by Singer and Friedlander , being appointed Regional Director in 1963 , based in Birmingham . He then became involved in several business ventures , allowing him to indulge in his love of the theatre : a director of P W Productions , best known for its West End productions of Susan Hill ’ s Woman in Black and J B Priestley ’ s An Inspector Calls . Country sports were another passion and he was a very keen shot and fisherman ; he was a great traveller and loved entertaining : an all-round bon viveur and an excellent bridge player . “ He was very funny , had a wonderful sense of humour , and was always brilliantly dressed .” He is survived by Derek Collins , his partner of 57 years .
James Michael Brendan Buchanan ( I , 45-50 ); died 18.02.2021 . RMAS 1951 ; 4 / 7th Royal Dragoon Guards 1952-68 , Army interpreter , French and German , sailing for Regiment ; FVRDE Chobham 1960 ; hot weather trials for new armoured track vehicle , Aden 1961 ; Military College of Science 1962-64 ; G2 ( tech ) RAC Centre 1965-67 ; N Ireland 1967-68 ; retired 1968 . He worked for Courtaulds for two years , including an enjoyable stint in Vienna , before running his own business 1971-2001 , distributing catering equipment and supplying schools , hotels , the Army Catering Corps and top chefs . He had a strong community spirit , took an active part in village life and was closely involved with church affairs : he was always ready to help out , or to campaign for a cause he believed in .
He loved the Hampshire and Sussex countryside and particularly enjoyed walking , which was often a feature of family travels , whether in the hills of Scotland and Exmoor , or in Austria , France and Portugal . He married Daphne Williams in 1964 , who died in 2016 . He is survived by their son and daughter .
Jonathan ( Jon ) Niall Tollit ( C , 46-50 ); died 12.11.2020 . 2 Lt , 4th Queen ’ s Own Hussars 1952 ; Bisley ( Rifle , Bren , Sten ). Engineer , MIMechE , FBIM , FIIM ; 17 years with GKN ; 17 years with Glynwed International plc ; he did not give up his work as engineering manager at Tower Manufacturing until he was 70 . He always said that he took up riding motor bikes to annoy his mother , who considered them plebeian compared to horses : he also bred , owned , trained and rode pointto-point winners . When his boss complained that he was often missing work due to riding accidents , he returned to motor bikes , well aware that these were if anything more dangerous : he had a strong streak of rebellious mischief . He gave up bike racing in 1997 aged 64 , having for the previous three years raced on the continent at Chimay , Gedinne and Jehonville . He also had a love of dogs , old book shops , mediaeval castles and , above all , opera . He renovated a weekend cottage on the Welsh borders , planting the hillside there with 7000 broadleaved trees : he planted trees wherever he lived . He married ( 1 ) Patricia Rushton in 1958 ( marriage dissolved ); ( 2 ) Juliet Thornton Auer in 2005 , who survives him together with his 3 daughters , 3 stepdaughters and a stepson .
