Ltd 1975-89. After he retired, his time was divided between shooting, dog training, fishing, gardening and indulging his family. He was a very knowledgeable horticulturist and loved anything and everything about the natural world. He married Fiona Cox in 1959, who survives him together with their 2 sons and a daughter.
Donald Charles Macpherson( G, 45-50); died 11.1.2025. Son of DHM. Cricket 2 nd XI, Rackets 2 nd Pair 1950: with his cousin Hugh he made history by beating the Eton 1 st Pair. As the rackets professional Guy Padwick said afterwards‘ He would have been in the 1 st Pair of any school, except the one he was at’. Lecturer in meteorology, University of Reading 1966, the first lecturer appointed to the department, helping establish what was then a new and innovative academic focus; Senior Lecturer 1970-95. The department attracted many overseas students, and international collaboration was a big part of his professional life. Associate Professor, Agricultural Meteorology, University of Zimbabwe, 1995-2007 until the political situation led him to return to Reading.
