self care 101
As much as art is therapeutic, the creative process can take a real toll on your physical and mental health. Stress reduces your ability to make good decisions and to process thoughts and for us creatives, our mind is one of our core tools so we need it to be in tiptop shape. These are somethings we can do to ensure that we do not neglect our own needs when we create. These things will help us to be more efficient, happy and will give us the clarity to be an even better creator.
1.Take a nap. I know that sometimes sleep deprivation can bring sudden bursts of inspiration and while we love the motivation, this can’t be an everyday thing. We feel less productive when we are sleep deprived because our brain is too tired to process our ideas.
Proper sleep keeps your brain nourished and healthy and gives your body the energy to actually remember the things we are trying to practice or learn [it’s called muscle memory people].
2. Water is the elixir that fuels life. And amongst its endless benefits, it increases energy, boosts immune system basically means it gives you energy to actually do these wonderful artistic things you are trying to do.
We should drink about 7-8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. It sounds like a lot but it’s really not. There are even apps that can remind you to drink water and if you don’t like the taste you can even spruce it up by infusing fruits in it. Water is great. In fact, drink a glass right now.
