UCSD is a very big part of my life . I am still very close to my Warren Drake girls . And my daughter is finishing up her last season on the women ’ s basketball team . My two nieces and a nephew ended up there and loved it .

During his senior year in high school , my son decided that he wanted to become a mechanical engineer . We checked out many universities around California . Mackenzie heard many stories from my friends and from me about the adventures we had at UCSD , and I think that these stories may have played a big role in his decision . It feels great to have two Tritons in the family .

My brother Dan and I were La Jolla High School and UCSD graduates , made surfboards and were members of the surf club . We are now both working in academics : I am a professor of neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine and Dan has a Ph . D . in art history and works at Smith College . How did we go from surf bums to careers in academics ?
