they are, which has led to suicidal thoughts and depression. As the students got older, they connected with other members of the LGBTQ community and found support.

In “Transitioning in the Real World” Oeser (2016) discusses the major changes made in the life of a lesbian that resulted in her choice of having sexual reassignment surgery. With the change came new obstacles of public discrimination and lack of acceptance. Despite the new struggles and adversities, the woman continues to go against gender stereotypes. CONCLUSIONS:

Anti-LGBTQ groups and homophobic individuals have affected the LGBTQ community by continually making it difficult for them to become an accepted member of society. LGBTQ individuals have constantly been oppressed and silenced as they try to improve their acceptance. If society allows such oppression and prejudices on the LGBTQ community to continue, society will remain an unsafe environment for people to live comfortably as they are.

DISCUSSION:

The hate, prejudices and judgement of LGBTQ individuals has existed and been researched for many years, yet minimal solutions have been provided as to how to help members of the LGBTQ community. An abundance of people often resort to protesting and rallies to raise awareness to this dire issue. With recent events, numerous measures have been made to reveal the problems faced by the LGBTQ community, yet some still view LGBTQ members as enemies of the public.

In order to alleviate the tension caused by anti-LGBTQ groups and homophobic individuals, awareness can be taught in schools, educating students on accepting LGBTQ members. By providing various support groups and call lines for LGBTQ individuals, society can help deal with the stress and fear brought on by anti-LGBTQ groups. LGBTQ hate and prejudices will not disappear if it is continues to be ignored, as many of the public has been doing. As a community there needs to be an understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ community.
