Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
TRC ’ s business requires a significant amount of driving and working at project sites that have unpaved surfaces and biological hazards , such as poisonous plants .
These three hazards have attributed to our most frequent workplace injuries . To reduce the risks associated with these hazards and continually improve safety performance , TRC ’ s Executive Safety Council , along with our Safety Department , developed the following mitigation strategies :
■ Implement the TRC Fleet Telematics Program to help minimize the risk of injury to our employees , other drivers and pedestrians , as well as to support improved transportation efficiency and a reduce vehicle emissions . This program also includes realtime driver monitoring program that provides us immediate notification of potential driver risks . In addition , we have revised our Fleet Safety Manual and provided additional driver education for select drivers .
■ Continually emphasize the importance of our hazard recognition processes and leading indicator programs including near misses and safe catches . Even during the COVID-19 pandemic , we continue to see employee engagement in these programs .
■ Maintain our Electronic Incident Management System ( Intelex ) to improve our incident notification and investigation process , and to promote more timely and effective corrective actions and lessons learned .
■ Continue to provide education on identifying and avoiding biological hazards and have provided field kits to enable prompt self-treatment for minor incidents .
As TRC continues to grow , our safety program must continue to evolve in order to be transitional and sustainable for our existing and new employees .
Areas of focus for our safety program in FY21 include Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery ; enhancing our employee on-boarding program through mentorship , training , oversight and other touchpoints ; and implementing technology solutions to efficiently analyze and react to data trends .
