Health and Safety Training
Initial and refresher training is an important aspect of our safety program to reduce the risk of work-related injuries , illnesses and incidents . Supervisors identify initial health and safety training requirements for all new employees under their direct supervision , based on job expectations , legal and other requirements , and client requirements . The initial training process is facilitated by our Office Safety Coordinators and all new TRC employees are provided new hire safety orientation within the first week of employment , including , but not limited to , the following topics :
■ TRC ’ s Environmental , Health and Safety Policy
■ Hazard Communication
■ Emergency Action Plan
■ Procedure for reporting hazards and work-related injuries
■ Overview of TRC ’ s Health and Safety Management System
On an ongoing basis , for those employees engaged in project work , our Project Managers are responsible for :
■ Confirming that employees participating in field work are current with health and safety training that is applicable to their field work ;
■ Evaluating the competency of TRC employees and Subcontractors performing field work through discussion and field observations ; and
■ Communicating the need for additional training or remedial training to the appropriate TRC Supervisors and Subcontractor representatives , based on field observations and reports of incidents .
Project Managers also communicate TRC ’ s health and safety training requirements to Subcontractors through our Internet-based contractor management programs ( e . g ., PICS , ISNetworld , etc .) and provide health and safety training information ( i . e ., training records , training course titles , frequency of training , etc .) to clients as requested .
Health and safety training can be delivered to employees by a variety of methods including computer-based , instructor led , and on-the-job meetings ( e . g ., tailboard meetings ). TRC Academy , our Learning Management System , includes training modules required by regulation , training required by specific clients , and various optional training modules .
Classroom training and certification is conducted by designated TRC trainers or outsourced to certified safety training companies . If a language barrier exists , then training is provided in the appropriate language or an interpreter is provided for in-person training . All training is provided to employees during paid working hours and free of charge .
