SUSTAINABILITY SUCCESS STORIES Enhancing Visibility In FY18, we developed a front-facing dashboard to pro- vide visibility for all employees on the progress against our 2020 Sustainability Targets and Objectives. This also provides the opportunity for sharing best practices and recognition of office achievements. The dashboard pulls from different systems in the company, as well as a newly created Sustainability database which serves as a repository for sustainability data not collected through other TRC systems. This upgrade allows us to easily export data for external reporting purposes, as well. The data is shown at the company-wide level with the ability to drill into each office. Reducing Energy To meet our 2020 energy reduction target, we assem- bled a workgroup to investigate energy usage in our offices. The team compared energy use against national averages using EnergyStar Portfolio Manager to identify 8 offices with highest usage and greatest opportunity for improvement. Working with those office managers we developed targeted opportunities for improvement with calculated return on investment, which included programmable thermostats, EnergyStar rated appliance upgrades, in-house energy audits, and energy-saving devices for vending machines; many of these improve- ments were included in FY19 budgets and are expected to show in next year’s energy reduction numbers. The findings and recommendations were also shared with offices that were not targeted for additional savings. 30 2018 Sustainability Report Efficient Office Space We have initiatives to maximize office space. Even with a large acquisition that brought in 20,000 sf, we still had a net square footage reduction of over 33,000 sf in FY18. This equates to: ■ ■ 215,000 kWh reduction ■ ■ 160 MT CO2e annual emissions reduction ■ ■ Or the equivalent of carbon sequestered by 188 acres of U.S. forests in one year Leasing Green Our Facilities Director championed an effort to develop guidance for including sustainable considerations during new lease negotiations. Our Green Lease Guidance is a tool to consistently evaluate existing and potential office space leaseholds, considering TRC’s 2020 Sustainability Objectives and Targets, Environmental Health & Safety Policy, and general sustainable business practices. The guidance covers, among other things, energy-efficient appliances and fixtures, third-party building certifications, water-efficient fixtures, recycling programs, employee commuting distance, and potential alterations to the office space.
