CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH ETHICS AND INTEGRITY Our commitment to strict ethical standards contributes directly to the professional reputation of our company. Our approach to ethical business transactions is guided by our corporate Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. The code is principles-based and assumes the applica- tion of professional judgment. The Board of Directors audit and risk management committee reviews compli- ance at least annually. The Code is also posted on our internal and external websites. Full compliance is required from all employ- ees in completing required training on our code. The TRC ethics hotline and Ethicspoint reporting web- site are resources for all employees. An ethics officer is in place and is accessible to all employees. We have a fundamental commitment to treating our employees with the highest dignity and respect as communicated in our employee handbook. Discrimina- tion against or harassment of employees for any reason will not be tolerated. Our Code of Conduct states our commitment to properly respond to inquiries by government offi- cials. Employees refer any governmental inquiries or notices to the General Counsel who is respon- sible for coordinating a full and timely response, including corrective actions if warranted. Non- compliance events and near misses are com- municated internally to share lessons learned in order to avoid recurrence. 20 2018 Sustainability Report MANAGING RISK TRC’s Chief Risk Officer oversees the Company’s risk management processes and practices that impact the strategic direction of the Company. Our risk manage- ment program is comprehensive in nature and enables us to identify sources of risk, establish the desired level of risk, and then develop opportunities to mitigate those risks in alignment with our strategic objectives. We strive for a defensively biased risk posture striking an appropriate balance between risk and opportunity to ensure that we maintain the appropriate risk-reward culture. We routinely apply these principles during our project review process, which helps us to communicate how managing risk is a strategic tool across all levels of the organization. We believe that emphasizing commu- nication and clear accountability for risk throughout the organization has served to significantly improve our risk management effectiveness, particularly the high level of focus and resources we employ throughout Operations and the Corporate Safety, Cyber/IT, Finance, Sustainability, and Legal functions.
