American Council of Engineering Companies( ACEC) Engineering Excellence Award and National ACEC Engineering Excellence Recognition Award
TRC was engaged by Waupaca Foundry, Inc.( WFI) to obtain approval for the use of foundry by-product material as a barrier layer in the landfill liner system. The success of the project offers significant benefits to WFI, including eliminating the need and cost for imported clay soil mined from an offsite location, maximizing disposal capacity, and extending the life of the landfill. The re-use of the by-product reduces by 80,000 cubic yards the amount of material deposited into the landfill as a waste.
Photovoltaic Project of Distinction Award
TRC and SunEdison were honored with a Photovoltaic Project of Distinction Award for the solar array project on Sullivan’ s Ledge, a former landfill owned by the City of New Bedford in Massachusetts. Sullivan’ s Ledge is the first superfund landfill to be developed in the state and one of the first to be developed in the country. The award recognizes innovative approaches to project design, technology, financing and community engagement. It is sponsored by the Solar Electric Industries Association and the Solar Electric Power Association and was presented at the 2015 PV America Conference in Boston.
California Advanced Homes Program
To assist home builders in preparing for and exceeding California Title 24 building code, TRC has implemented Pacific Gas & Electric’ s California Advanced Homes Program( CAHP) for the past 5 years. CAHP is designed to encourage builders to adopt energy-saving designs through an escalating incentive structure and bonus incentives for achieving sustainability goals and certifications. To-date, the program has generated 10.5 GWh and nearly 200,000 DTh of savings. In 2015, TRC expanded CAHP to include a code-readiness option: CAHP Master Builder, which helps builders with early adoption of high performance attic and high performance wall measures slated for the next code cycle.
