Dear Diary ,
It ' s been a few days since I found my father ' s father ' s old journal , and after reading through it , what our father explained as a little tranquil village had turned upside down . What was once a peaceful village turned into a town of industry and progress . The air is now thick and gray with a heavy scent of smoke . What my father once explained as the " beautiful fields " now have been replaced with newly erected factories that are about 50 times the size of my house . What people once found simple and accommodating was now being converted into a new " flock " to the city , promising citizens new jobs that were less manual and , overall , a different way of life . As I continue writing about this family legacy , I keep having a mix of excitement but still some fear of what the future holds for us .
Yours truly , Amelie Whitman ( Jonathan ' s daughter ).

Dear Diary ,
The city has grown from the ashes of our quaint little village with life and progress . Once , my ancestor ' s hands were calloused because of the soil , but now I am in charge of navigating this fast-paced environment of a bustling textile mill . Electric lights brighten the city , trains come now and then , and skyscrapers stretch toward the sky . Generations weave the tapestry , and now I witness the story unfold right before my eyes . The stories of Jonathan and Amelia might seem distant , yet I wonder how our family ' s history will be engraved into the pages of history .
Sincerely , Benjamin Whitman ( Amelia ' s Amelia ' s grandson ).
