Whitman Family ’ s Entries
July 10 , 1750
Dear Diary ,
As I sit here in the cozy warmth of our family ' s heart , everything is so familiar : the sound of the creaking wooden beam beneath me and the gentle sounds of our village . It fills my soul how simple yet mesmerizing it is to live in our corner of England . I look out my window and see how our beautiful fields stretch before me . How the years of nonstop toiling calloused my hands . You should look at my father ' s father ' s , but now I feel a sense of comfort in our daily tasks here in the field . Our village is more than just a community to me ; we ' re a family . The stories , memories , midnight reunions in the narrow yet silent streets , the stories that patch us together .
Today , I met up with my best friend , Sarah Daecen ; we stayed up talking about our future . After talking the whole night , we concluded that we don ' t know the future and can ' t know what it will bring for us or our future generations . I hope these rhetorical questions don ' t keep me awake at night . There ' s a lot of work to do tomorrow , the day after tomorrow , and probably forever .
Signed , Jonathan Whitman .
