For my drink, the light yet tangy taste of Gin and Tonic complemented the meal perfectly, although next time I would prefer to eliminate the limes from the drink to avoid the bitterish aftertaste( this is always my preference) After the meal, we were able to lounge and chat, as the ingredients were light and simple, and we did not have that lethargic feeling usually brought on by a burger or mound of fries. Indulge in great Jamexican food if you happen to be in the vicinity or better yet, plan a date with your friends or significant other, the venue is that versatile!
Chillitos recently experienced a re-birth; the venue has been given a facelift, taking a fresh approach to fusing Mexican food with our reliable succulent Jamaican flavour. Dining at chillitos is somewhat of a cross between the rising sports bar ambiance and a home gathering with family and friends. Chillitos for the most part manages to block out the invasive sounds of Hope Road, giving you an invitation to get cozy behind its rustic wooden walls. The light chatter and chops in the nearby kitchen create a rhythmic movement like that of family gatherings in a backyard, completed with the dim glow of the sunset, making you feel right at home. Friday night for me at Chillitos was inviting to say the least, the waiter immediately approached my friend and I when we entered and his laid back and friendly approach struck up a pleasant feeling. He walked us to our seats, and invited us to sit wherever we liked. He handed us our menus, and gave us time to browse as the menu presented numerous choices, all outlined in comprehensive steps and a description of the items. For the appetizer I went for the traditional tortilla chips. They were warm and crunchy and went well with spicy salsa.
The main course arrived quickly, which is usually a plus in anyone’ s book. I went with the salad bowl instead of the traditional taco, which as the menu describes“ your filling( Jerk Chicken) refried black beans, salsa, and jalapenos on a bed of lettuce”.
