The United Nations declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Taking this into consideration, the Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management organized this period (2017 IP) some activities related to the environmental preservation, such as: The Tourism Products Fair and the discussion Sustainable Tourism: a desire of preservation.
But, why tourism? Because this industry "can be a vehicle for protecting and restoring biodiversity" (UNWOT, 2017), but it also can be a vehicle for the economic growth, the poverty reduction, the promotion of cultural values and diversity.
These are the main reasons that make tourism sector is considered one of the opportunity to contribute to the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, a reason to promote the awareness among the students of the Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
