RACE INFO
3 TOG BAGS
3.1 A free Tog Bag Facility will be available on race day, with drop-off facilities at the Start and collection facilities at the Finish.
3.2 The drop-off point will be just after Dean Street, at Great Westerford. On arrival, you will be issued two bands – one for your bag and the other band for you to use when claiming your bag at the finish. Make sure the tag is securely fastened around your arm, as no bags will be released without a matching armband.
3.3 Bags can be dropped off from 03h30 before the Ultra, and from 04h30 before the Half. Please ensure you remove all items you need before handing in your bag – once submitted, bags cannot be retrieved again, due to the high volumes.
3.4 Runners are urged to arrive at the Start early to ease congestion and queuing for the tog bag drop point.
3.5 Please note: Bags must be collected at the Finish venue after the race by no later than 15h00( Ultra) and 13h00( Half) at the Finish.
4 TOILETS
4.1 Toilets will be provided at the start. Please use these facilities responsibly and leave them in the same condition you would expect to find them.
4.2 In the interest of water conservation, chemical toilets will be utilised.
4.3 Runners are urged to arrive at the Start early to ease congestion and queuing for the toilets.
4.4 Please note: Runners are respectfully requested not to use front lawns or gardens as a‘ bathroom.’ Runners who foul properties at the start and along the route may face disciplinary action.
5 START PROCEDURES
5.1 To ensure a smooth and safe start from Newlands Main Road, runners are seeded into alphabetical batches, which are divided into two groups of batches for ease of batch-loading and safer movement of runner. The staggered start system is designed for fairness and safety, so please respect it.
5.2 Each batch has been reduced to approximately 770 runners to ease congestion.( In previous years batches contained up to 1200 runners.)
5.3 All batches will start one after another, with two-minute intervals between them.
5.4 You may move to a later batch, should you prefer to start further back or if you want to run with a partner, clubmate or friend who has a lower seeding than you. If you move to a later batch, your race time will be based on that batch’ s start time.
5.5 Starting in an earlier batch is not permitted and‘ jumping’ one or more batches may result in penalties or disqualification.
5.6 Official race timing is gun-to-mat( your time starts when your batch starts). Net( mat-to-mat) times will be available online for personal reference, but only gun-to-mat times count for official results.
5.7 Please Note: Place discarded clothing or plastic bags outside the chute to prevent tripping hazards.
6 ULTRA MARATHON START
6.1 The Ultra Marathon will have 19 Batches from Elites and Batch A down to Batch U. Batches A-P will be in Group 1, running in descending alphabetical order from the start line, while Batches Q-U will be in Group 2, lining up in descending alphabetical order from the Dean Street intersection on Main Road. Take note of the following instructions
• Group 1 start chutes open at 03h30 and close at 05h00. If you are not in your start chute by 05h00, you will be required to load behind Batch P( at Dean Street), and your official race time will begin with the gun time of Batch P.
• Group 2 start chutes open at 03h30 and close at 05h20. These batches will begin moving forward shortly after 05:20, so if you are not in your chute by then, you will be required to load behind Batch U, and your official race time will begin with the gun time of Batch U.
6.2 All Blue Number Club( BNC) members and Yellow Number runners are seeded into a dedicated BNC Batch J( including Ultra runners with a Light Blue Number in the Half Marathon), with the following exceptions:
• BNC runners with a qualifying marathon time faster than 4:00 have been seeded into Batches A – H, based on your qualifying time.
• BNC runners who are seeded in Batches A – H, but prefer to start in the dedicated BNC Batch J, may move back. Your official race time will then begin with the gun time of Batch J.
6.3 Start Sequence
• 05h00 – Pre-race ceremonies commence
• 05h15 – Official race start( Elites and Batch A)
• 05h16 – Athletes in wheelchairs( AW) start immediately after Batch A
• 05h18 – Subsequent batches from B to U will start at 2-minute intervals
• Note: Once Batch A has started, Batches B – P will begin moving forward
6.4 All Ultra Marathon runners have 7 hours to complete the race to be recognised as official finishers. Your race time will start from the starting gun of the batch that you start in, and your timing chip on your race number will register your starting time when you cross the start line.
6.5 All medal cut-offs and the final 7:00 cut-off are based on your batch gun start time.
