Salvete omnes!
It was amazing seeing everyone at convention during the summer! After convention, the 9 AJCLers that attended headed back to school, ready for another great school year and JCL year. After the first in-person meeting in August, the AJCL Executive Board was full of JCL spirit, which we are spreading to the excited AJCL chapters.
In August and September, chapters connected with each other at their first meeting, and during a gelato & games event! This October, the AJCL released the very first edition of Dicamus, the AJCL’s new seasonal publication. In recognition of Pompeii Day (October 24), the AJCL hosted the virtual Pompeii day contests! AJCLers had the opportunity to take a test about Pompeii, write short poetry, and rebuild Pompeii through artwork – some on paper and some on Minecraft! The submissions were amazing to judge – looking at all the creativity from AJCLers all over the state is truly wonderful.
With our state convention coming up in a few months, the AJCL Executive Board has got the ball rolling on convention planning! The AJCL 2025 Convention theme was unveiled by our 2024- 2025 AJCL President, Audrey Lewis: “Citius, altius, fortius — communiter”. This quote happens to be the Olympic motto, so we decided that we would recognize the 2024 Paris Olympics at state convention this year. We can’t wait to see everyone at state convention in February this year, for it will be like a huge family reunion!

ALABAMA
Salvete omnes!
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole “NJCL thing” and I’m super grateful for everyone who supported us along the way to get us there! It was a really fun experience and I can’t wait to go back next year! We’ve reached out to the NLE coordinators and asked if they could provide us a list of schools in AK who took it. They were really willing to help us, and from the list, we found several schools who offered the NLE! I met with one of the Latin teachers at one of the schools and talked to her. They decided to reach out to me later with whether any students would be interested. I can’t wait to hear more from them!
