Salvete omnes!
Since our last update, the MDJCL has held two more Certamina, with the Key School hosting their first-ever event for Saturnalia and Gilman hosting their annual Lupercalia event! Up next: our first-ever Open Certamen at the McLean School, and then State Convention (with the theme Oracles and Prophecies!) at Easton High School!
Additionally, the design contest for this year’s state t-shirt is currently underway—we’re eagerly awaiting seeing the final product in April and showing it off in Ohio this summer!
What does your state JCL have that you're sure no other JCL does?
An abundance of Spirit Chants about crabs. Did you know that Caesar was a Cancer? We do!

Salvete from New Jersey!
Since our last update, the NJ-JCL has been approaching the busiest time of the school year, as well as our terms on the state executive board. In December, we held our “Care Crafts Project” Zoom, in which our officers and local JCL members worked on creating a variety of items–including coloring page templates, cards, and bracelet-making kits–in order to donate them to children in need.
We also held our virtual Saturnalia Night, where we participated in a “draw Julius Caesar” competition, Gartic Phone, as well as quite a few Gimkits. We ended up having so much fun that the event ran a half-hour longer than anticipated (sorry Registrars, I remain the best impostor of the NJ-JCL).
Our Certamen and State Convention coordinators have also been working tirelessly to prepare for our State Certamen at Princeton University, as well as our 75th annual State Convention in April. Make sure to stay updated on all of our events by following our Instagram @njjcl_!
What is a fun fact about your state's JCL?
The state bird and flower of New Jersey just so happen to reflect the colors of the JCL (purple and yellow, respectively), which is how we went about designing our logo a few years ago.
How many members does your state JCL have?
When was your state JCL founded?
Our famous JCL shorts, with "Hoc Tangere Non Potes" written on the butt.
