Salvete omnes!

Over here in sunny Arizona, our winter has been warm and festive. Members from all over the state have come together to participate in certamen in recognition of Agonalia. Chapters across Arizona met Saturnalia with discussions of Roman hierarchies, reading about wax figurine gifts, and decorating pileos. Merry ornaments and colorful origami Roman foods were hung up around classrooms in various chapters as winter festivals and animal sacrifices awaited the coming of the new year.

AZJCL continues to inspire JCLers to keep in holiday spirit: transitioning from winter to spring, we watch as chapters celebrate Lupercalia, discuss the Vernal Equinox, and look forward to the annual birthdate of Rome!

Salvete omnes!

After a thrilling 2024 FJCL Fall Forum, the FJCL continues to shine its way through the year in all realms. First, the FJCL on its Instagram begins the tradition of having a school spotlight, in which schools can submit several pictures in order to publicize their outstanding achievements. Next, the FJCL published their FJCL State Forum Motto: Omnia quae nunc vetustissima creduntur nova fuere.

With 2025 starting off, the FJCL dives deep into their Regional Latin Forum season in which regions across the state participated in testing, Ludi, Certamen, and other classical activities. We also had an election preview for the future elections at states. Additionally, the University of Florida announced its own Certamen tournament for students to attend from across the state. Registration is open and schools are registering.

This year our state forum is at a new hotel, so it is a big challenge for the board to make sure all goes well. Despite this, the officers are currently working on activities to make this forum memorable for all who attend. Although the year may be slowly coming to an end, the FJCL is buzzing with excitement for future events such as the 76th FJCL State Forum and the 2025 NJCL Convention.

Aloha and salvete omnes!

These past few months have been fruitful for the Hawaii Junior Classical League. Our main chapter at ‘Iolani School continued their participation in the Latin League Competition and recently hosted their annual Lupercalia Party, which featured a love-themed trivia competition, delicious treats, and a card-writing service project.

We are excited to continue expanding our delegation and prepare for Nationals, and we are also looking forward to supporting our state’s 2nd VP Audrey at Classicalia.
