Salvete omnes! After returning from Nationals, the South Carolina Junior Classical League has had an exciting few months! Each school has been up to their own stuff, but our own Classics Day, sometimes dubbed as Fall Forum, commenced on November 11th, 2023, and was an absolute blast! We had speakers come in and give us many enjoyable and informative presentations on different ancient topics, from coinage to mythological gods to Gladiator semantics. Since then, we now have our very own Spring Forum coming up soon, where we will participate in activities such as Certamen and Ludi, and vote for our new state officers. We can’t wait to see all of you at Nationals!

The past few months have been filled with lots of PAJCL camaraderie, enthusiasm, and

celebration! Saturnalia felt especially merry this year, with schools ranging from Upper Dublin High School to Black Rock Middle School hosting celebrations in honor of the old Roman tradition. Additionally, Saturn himself would be proud of the strong showing at Harriton’s multi-school Saturnalia, which saw about 70 students from Owen J. Roberts, Conrad Weiser, West Chester, Radnor, Germantown Academy, Haverford, and Harriton come together for anight of fun. The discipuli enjoyed a magnificent feast, competed in an epic Latin Battle of the Carols, participated in a fun Streetamen tournament, and partook in dodgeball, arts & crafts, a service project, an escape room, and more!

In addition to these Saturnalia celebrations, the PAJCL board has been hard at work

planning the PAJCL convention coming up in May, and is getting ready to put out the latest

edition of our state newsletter, the Keystone! Local chapters have been keeping up their regular meetings as well as celebrating holidays such as Compitalia and Lupercalia. Students around the state have also been busy preparing a variety of projects for local competitions like the Capital Area Classics Festival and the Philadelphia Classical Society’s Latin Week. Shoutout to Harriton Latin Club (@harritonhslatinclub) for being recognized as NJCL’s December Club of the Month!
